anyways the reason why normani is so gassed is not only b/c she’s immensely talented and full of potential but the desperation of how many black girls (DARKSKINNED) black girls see themselves in her and want her to win can change and shift our entire perception of darker skinned black girls in the music industry. we’ve had to watch kelela, jazmine sullivan, literally any other darker skinned female artist get pushed aside to make room for their lighter counterparts but normani is the one that can actually open the doors for darkskinned girls to make a PERMANENT comeback
her energy, stage presence, her airy and sultry voice and her overall talent is a recipe for a STAR and it’s disheartening to see black people turn their backs on her b/c she doesn’t have the ‘vocals’ they want her to have when in reality even if she was a power vocal (see teyana taylor) they would still pay her DUST
colorism works fucking hard but normani and her stans work even HARDER and i will make sure with every ounce of my being that that little girl makes it to the top because it’s more than just music, us dark skinned girls deserve to see ourselves in the spotlight! PERIOD!
